This week we covered the importance of Protein in our diets.
Protein is
essentially the building blocks for life, it enables the body to grow and
repair itself.
Protein also
helps to maintain/build lean muscle mass and increase metabolism
Lean muscle
mass decreases as we age so it is important to exercise with the right amount
of protein intake. Muscle mass requires
more energy than fat to stay lean so has higher fat burning properties.
Protein will also keep you feeling fuller and also irons out
the blood sugars highs and lows for example - you experience after eating sweets/biscuits etc, so always reach for a
protein snack rather than a quick fix sweet/biscuits as all that will happen is
your want another and another.
Protein snacks should be balanced, looking forward to seeing what everyone brings into class next week - did they pay attention..... Time will tell :-)
